THE REPRESENTATION OF THE PEOPLE (POSTPONEMENT OF ENUMERATION PERIOD) ACT 5 OF 1996

AN ACT to Postpone for purposes of the Representation of the People Act, the enumeration period due to commence on the 14th day of March, 1996.
WHEREAS it is provided by paragraph (b) of subsection (2) of section 7 of the Representation of the People Act that an enumeration period shall commence no later than two years after the end of the previous enumeration period:
AND WHEREAS the previous enumeration period ended on the 14th day of March, 1996:
AND WHEREAS matters preparatory to the start of the enumeration period have not been finalized:
AND WHEREAS the time in which those matters could be finalized would extend beyond the 14th day of March, 1996:
AND WHEREAS it is expedient that the date on which the enumeration period is to begin should be postponed:

BE IT ENACTED by The Queen's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Representatives of Jamaica, and by the authority of the same, as follows:-
1 Short title and commencement
This Act may be cited as the Representation of the People (Postponement of Enumeration Period) Act, 1996 and shall be deemed to have come into operation on the 13th day of March. 1996.
2 Interpretation
In this Act "enumeration period" means the period of twelve months commencing on the 14th day of March, 1996.
3 Postponement of enumeration period
Notwithstanding anything to the contrary, the enumeration period which should commence on the 14th day of March, 1996 shall be postponed for a period of nine months the 14th day of December 1996
4 Duration
This Act shall continue in force until the 13th day of December, 1996.
